Spencer Watts is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Tacoma, WA. "I AIN'T GOT NO MONEY" was a nostalgic take into a pivotal point of his adolescence. Young, broke, directionless. Working a retail job. The beginning of your 20 somethings often puts you at a crossroad. For Spencer, this was when he decided to take agency over his life. This started the brewing of his own personal transformation.

"Looking back on these photos taken last year, I see a young man attempting to learn from his mistakes and take the necessary steps to move forward. But in the end, he still completely missed the mark and put himself right back where he started. No one adamantly chooses to be insane by putting themselves in the same situations again and keep the unhealthy patterns alive.
We all have blind spots that hide important information from ourselves. We tend to double down on what not to do again in regards to others. We also double down on how to utilize our strengths better, rather than balancing our playing field by highlighting and strengthening our weaknesses.
But these photos prove to me that even in insanity and missing the marks (again and again), you still have the ability to create beautiful art that tells a story. The story though, creates itself.
This is what life has looked like for me since before this project, all the way until now. I'm finally, almost a year later, using my awareness to attend to my blind spots."
